For a number of months now my left knee is the primary communicator from body to mind. At least, this is the one that demands attention. It requires rest, relaxation, movement, exercise, nourishment and tender loving care. Kind of like the rest of me. I was mourning not being able to dance with a swollen knee, only to realize that there is a new dance — slower, gentler. With careful attention, the dance goes on.
Returning to craniosacral as a core body work practice, I am reminded of the fluid body and that change is the only constant. All the body work and movement practices that I have trained in, particularly Social Presencing Theater and the Art of Making a True Move remind us to pay attention each moment. We are alive! Whatever the sensations, pain or pleasure, watch them move with gentleness. This is what I need to remind myself to fully be.
When I move beyond preoccupation to others and the environment, life is rich. What wants to emerge in this combination of individual body, the social body or group and the planet body or the world we are creating for ourselves? What life am I creating?
